Dr. Mac Bowman Horizon Foundation
forHealth...Help...Hope... Healing...Honor
The Dr. Mac Bowman Horizon Foundation was founded on 27 September 2018 for the purpose of supporting efforts in the community to enhance the overall well being of its citizens. As is stated above, its emphasis is Horizon’s focus on health, help, hope, healing and honor as we extend God’s blessings wherever, whenever and however we can.
Horizon grew out of past efforts of Founder, Dr. Mac Bowman, an Augusta, Georgia cardiologist and his longtime friend and brother-in-Christ, Mr. De Pierce, of Mercedez Benz of Augusta. Mr. Pierce, the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation brought his business and organizational expertise to Dr. Bowman’s vision and passion for others which they shared. With Mercedez Benz of Augusta as a partner in community healthcare screenings and major fundraising efforts through an annual raffle of a new Mercedez automobile, Horizon grew forward after initial efforts under the auspices of the Dr. Mac Bowman Endowment of The University Healthcare Foundation. Dr. Bowman and Mr. Pierce desiring to expand the scope and focus of their efforts subsequently evolved into the Dr. Mac Bowman Horizon Foundation to achieve these beyond the limits of Dr. Bowman’s Healthcare Foundation Endowment—The Dr. Mac Bowman Horizon Foundation was subsequently formed as stated to promote health, give help, provide hope, promote healing and to render honor to those who serve and enhance the lives of others as well as improving our community through their sacrifice and efforts.
The constant focus and mandate of Dr. Bowman, Mr. Pierce and the Horizon Foundation is unwavering—To Extend God’s Love—From Him; To Us; To Others. During its inaugural year, The Foundation has done multiple cardiovascular health screenings throughout the community. Many of these have been done at Mercedez Benz of Augusta where early evidence of cardiovascular disease were detected with subsequent referral and care which prevented heart attacks and strokes. Dr. Bowman and Mr. Pierce went to Richmond County Schools and did presentations to youth groups at the Boys and Girls Club and at University Hospital as well. Horizon is a 501-c-3 Foundation.
The Foundation donated substantial cash contributions to Project BBUILD, a youth mentorship program for at-risk middle school boys which is run by Dr. Ronald Brown and Alpha Mu Boule’ of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity. Additional major financial support has been donated to the Childhood Enrichment Center and Childhood Advocacy Council for support of abuses children and those who are evolving through the legal system. They have provided financial support and have physically participated in community outreach efforts of Mercy Ministries. They have financially aided efforts to house displaced or homeless veterans as well as supporting community events such as SHERO Awards which honor local community servants. As The Horizon Foundation continues to grow forward, it will continue to be a fulcrum of love and service throughout our community doing good and great things at every opportunity.
