The Dr. Mac Bowman Horizon Foundation extends God’s love by helping strengthen the health, hope and well-being of individuals, families and communities throughout the CSRA.
In the summer of 2025, the community suffered a heartbreaking loss when beloved YMCA employee Donell Brown, 34, was tragically killed by a drunk driver while working. Donell was driving a YMCA Y on the Fly van to Golden Harvest Food Bank to pick up food for the community food program—a reflection of the servant heart that defined his life.
Donell left behind his wife, Becca, and their three children. While nothing could replace what their family had lost, those who knew Donell wanted to surround them with the same compassion and generosity that he had shown others.
The Dr. Mac Bowman Foundation upon hearing about this devastating loss and learning that Becca was left without transportation, and knew that they could help. De Pierce, CEO of The Horizon Foundation partnered with Miracle Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, Jeep, General Manager Derrick Corbitt to develop a strategy to help this young widow and her children. With the help of Catie McCauley, President of the Family Y, Tripod Media, and Tina D’Antignac of Huntington Bank, they came together to provide Becca and her family with a free and clear vehicle with the title.
It was more than a car. It was a gift of hope, support, and love—a reminder that they were not alone.
